Tooth Extraction FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Getting your wisdom teeth removed can feel daunting, but we’re here to help. Our expert team at Apex Dental Studio has put together answers to the most frequently asked questions about wisdom tooth extraction to put your mind at ease.

What is a tooth extraction?

A tooth extraction is when we take out a tooth from its spot in your jaw bone. We might need to do this for different reasons, like if a tooth is badly hurt, has a big cavity, or if your mouth is too full and we need to make room for other teeth.

Our team at Apex Dental Studio knows this can sound scary. We’re here to help you feel at ease and answer any questions you have. We use the latest tools and methods to make sure the process is as smooth as possible for you.
You might need a tooth taken out if it’s very damaged from decay or an accident. Sometimes, we need to remove teeth to fix crowding issues or to get ready for braces. Wisdom teeth often need to come out too, especially if they’re causing problems or might cause issues later.

We always look at all options before deciding to take out a tooth. Our dentists will explain why an extraction might be the best choice for you. We’ll make sure you understand everything before we move forward with any treatment.
Most of the time, taking out a tooth doesn’t take very long – usually about 20-40 minutes. But the exact time can change based on which tooth needs to come out and how hard it might be to remove.

The team at our Hutto office works to make the process quick and easy for you. We’ll give you a better idea of how long it might take after we look at your teeth and take some x-rays. Our goal is to get you in and out as fast as we can while still giving you great care.
Most people can go back to work or school the day after an extraction, but it depends on what kind of extraction you had and how you’re feeling. It’s best to avoid hard exercise for about a week to help your mouth heal.

We know you want to get back to your normal life as soon as possible. Our team will give you personalized advice on when it’s okay to do different activities. Remember, taking it easy for a little while can help you heal faster in the long run. If you have any questions about what you can or can’t do, just give us a call.
We use good numbing medicine to make sure you don’t feel pain during the extraction. You might feel some pressure, but it shouldn’t hurt. After the numbing wears off, you could have some soreness for a few days.

To help you stay comfortable, we’ll give you tips on how to take care of your mouth after the extraction. This includes using ice packs and taking pain medicine if you need it. We’re always here to answer questions or help if you’re feeling uncomfortable after you go home.
Before your appointment, make sure to tell us about any health issues you have and any medicine you take. Don’t eat or drink anything for 8 hours before if you’re getting sleep medicine. Wear comfy clothes and bring someone to drive you home if you’re getting strong medicine.

Your comfort is really important to us at Apex Dental Studio. We’ll give you all the info you need to get ready. If you have any worries or questions before your appointment, just give us a call. We’re happy to talk things through with you.
Most people start to feel better after a few days, but full healing can take 1-2 weeks. The hole where your tooth was will slowly fill in with new tissue. It’s normal to have some swelling and soreness at first.

Our team will give you a list of things to do (and not do) to help you heal faster. This includes eating soft foods, not smoking, and avoiding hard exercise for a bit. If you have any problems or worries during healing, don’t wait to call us. We’re here to help you through the whole process.
For the first few days, you’ll need to eat soft foods like soup, yogurt, and mashed potatoes. Avoid hot drinks, alcohol, and hard or crunchy foods. As you start to feel better, you can slowly add more normal foods back into your diet.

Eating the right foods helps you heal faster. We’ll give you a list of good foods to eat and ones to avoid. Remember, everyone heals at their own speed, so listen to your body. If something doesn’t feel right when you’re eating, go back to softer foods for a bit longer.
A dry socket happens when the blood clot that forms after an extraction comes out too soon. This can cause pain and slow down healing. To avoid this, don’t use straws, refrain from smoking, and follow all our care instructions carefully.

Taking good care of your mouth after an extraction is key. We’ll show you how to gently clean the area and what signs to watch for. If you think you might have a dry socket, call us right away. We can help make you more comfortable and get your healing back on track.
Sometimes we use stitches to help the area heal, but not always. It depends on how big the extraction site is and how much bleeding there is. If you do get stitches, they usually dissolve on their own after a week or so.

The dentists at Apex Dental Studio will let you know if you need stitches and how to take care of them. Don’t worry about having to come back to get them taken out – in most cases, they’ll just go away on their own. We’ll check on how you’re healing at your follow-up appointment.

We absolutely love this dental office! From the moment we walk in, my son is always made to feel welcome, comfortable, and genuinely cared for. The entire team goes above and beyond to make every patient feel special, and you can truly tell they care about the kids and their families. What stands out the most is how they take the time to explain everything in a way my son can understand. They never rush through appointments and always make sure he knows what’s happening and why, which has helped him feel confident instead of nervous about going to the dentist.I truly can’t say enough great things about this office. Their kindness, patience, and genuine compassion are unmatched. If you’re looking for a pediatric dentist who treats your child like family, I couldn’t recommend them more highly!

Had a crown done but had a sensituvity & redness issue with it. Called on a Friday afternoon and I was given an appt. & seen within an hour & a half!!! They took a couple of x rays, did a visual inspection & it was determined I needed a root canal. I need to go see someone about the root canal but will have my 2 month old crown redone at no charge! Then I’m ready to move on with the rest of my treatment plan…….happy so far!!!
